These Basque songs are by nature completely different from each other. Some arise from an explicit Christian religiosity while others, apparently not religious, spring directly from the beauties of nature and of life, and the hardships they bring. Some are expressions of a combative sensitivity (like the man who wanders far from his home), others of mere passion. In the same way, the tunes seem to have different origins.
